Seasoned wood fuel from sustainable managed woodland
Natural wood suitable for an open fire
When seasoned properly, woods such as Ash, Oak and Sycamore will not spit, and produce little smoke, making them ideal for an open fire. All our limited supply of this type of wood is sourced as part of the natural management cycle of the small woodlands and Flaxlands
Natural softwood suitable for wood burning stoves
A selection of seasoned natural softwoods sourced from local woodland and other sustainable sources. This wood may be of a less uniform size, can occasionally spit and will produce a little more smoke. Best used in wood burning stoves, but cheaper than the hardwoods.
Waste wood from building sites, joinery firms and saw mills
It’s estimated that the UK produces 5 million tonnes of waste wood per year. In 1996 less than 4% was recycled, ending up in landfill. As of 2008 over 40% of waste wood is now recycled, and that number is growing steadily. We believe in environmental sustainability so strongly, that we have started a project to recycle wood from building sites so it can be burnt in domestic fires.
We first ensure the wood is dry and free from contaminants. Then we cut it to size so it fits into our crates. Each crate of recycled wood will probably contain a variety of wood types and may contain the odd nail or other ironwork and may have some traces of non-toxic paint or preservative, but will be fine to burn in a normal wood stove. Burning this type of wood is cost effective, but can produce more ash and may result in your chimney needing to be swept more often.
Biomass Briquettes [available soon - 2011]
Biomass briquettes are a viable substitute for fossil fuel, especially coal. They are made from straw logs and are a sustainable, solid biomass fuel produced as a by-product of UK food production.
These environmentally friendly, farm grown heat logs offer an excellent alternative to coal, charcoal or wood as a solid fuel. Briquettes contain more energy than fossil fuel meaning they burn hotter for longer while producing much less environmental damage.
